The following videos assume that you have installed the theme in the normal way and that you have uploaded all of your images and icons. There is a readme.html file in the bizFX folder with all of the setup instructions.

Add Product/Service Pages

Watch this video to see what pages to add and what information to collect for the CU3ER configuration file. The video was created prior to the release of WP 3.0. Create your pages and use the new WordPress Menu option to create your menu the way you want.

Configure the CU3ER & Upload It

Watch this video to see how to configure the CU3ER (config.xml) file and upload it. This file is located in the bizFX/cu3er folder and controls the 3D slider.

Finish Page Setup

Watch this video to see how to add the custom fields to populate the home page boxes, add a thumbnail to list pages, add an image to product/service pages and add icons to the home page boxes.

Watch this video if you have a logo file with a different name or if you uploaded your logo with the Media option. If you have a logo.png file, upload it to bizFX/images. Your logo will now appear in the header. Your logo should be 300w X 95h. If you want to use your site name in the header, just delete the bizFX/images/logo.png file on your site.

There’s a lot of work in creating a theme. I spent quite a bit of time creating dropdown menus for the theme. If you’ve never done it before, it’s a challenge. Everything will work fine in FF and then you look at it in IE and you cry. Microsoft is so arrogant that they just don’t feel obligated to follow the W3C guidelines. If only we could get most people to use FF, Chrome or Safari. Then maybe, just maybe Microsoft would follow the guidelines.

Anyway, this is what I’ve been working on while neglecting my posts:

  • added a dropdown menu
  • modified the graphics to include a nav bar
  • modified the home page boxes to remove the top shading
  • added a thin, light border to the home boxes
  • added background shading to the lower boxes
  • coded the home page box icons as a custom fields
  • created a products/services list page
  • coded the images for the products list page to be custom fields
  • created a product/service page
  • modified the CSS on the blog page to add a box around the meta information
  • added a contact page with a jQuery form

Well, that’s about it for now. I need to get this completed so I can get back to my site and other projects.

I’ve been teaching full-time for the last two months and haven’t had much time to work on the bizFX theme. You’d think that teaching college courses would pay a decent amount of money. Depending on the class it works out to $10.00 to $15.00 per hour. How’s that for rewarding compensation?

I’ve had some time over the last week to refine my home page graphic design. Not being a graphic designer, I spent too much time trying this and trying that. At some point you just have to say this is it and move on to the next phase. So, I’m committing to the design I have and preparing for the next phase.

Next I need to design a default post, default page and alternative home page. These pages should be easier since most of the changes will be to the content area and not the header or footer.

I’m calling it BizFX for now. That’s not real original, but what the heck. Also, I’m not a graphics designer so I wouldn’t say the theme has a wow factor. The layout isn’t done yet. I haven’t had much time to work on it and need more time to play with other options.

I’m planning on incorporating the CU3ER 3D Flash image slider. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out here: CU3ER. I think you’ll like it.

It’s being designed with businesses in mind and will include several page layouts, two to three colors and a clean, professional look. I’ve had some time over the holidays to work on it. Although, I haven’t had as much time as I’d like. Anyway, following is an image of my PSD file and the color combinations I plan to use. The header and footer aren’t done yet. I hope to have them done soon, along with the primary home page layout. Happy New Year to everyone!
